A TASIS Photo Walkabout!
TASIS Photography classes often grab their cameras and explore the campus during classtime. Sometimes there are assignments where the students look for shadows, colors, hidden corners, or abstract compositions. Other days pinhole cameras are used to try and capture the campus with a shoe box. One Photography 1 class headed outside this week in search of reflections. At first it seemed as if there were no interesting compositions to be found, but by the end of the walk it was surprising what had been seen and photographed. Enjoy a few of the images from a 30-minute TASIS walkabout!
No Gaps in This Year!
From camping in Australia's Outback to snorkeling with stingrays in St. John, TASIS graduate Taylor Tomosso '13 has had an adventure and photography-packed summer.
From Taylor....
I traveled around Europe for a few weeks after graduation, and then was home for about three weeks (the longest time I’ve been home in four years) before I traveled to Australia with National Geographic for a student expeditions photography trip. I met people from all around the world who all shared the same passion of photography. We camped under the Milky Way, swam with black tip reef sharks, and we all learned from some of the best photographers in the world.
After one month of living out of a suitcase, I was happy to come home for a short week before leaving again, this time to Nicaragua for a mission trip at an orphanage. I loved seeing the kids, handing out clothes and food to the poor, and practicing my Spanish. I was able to spend a week with my family, but ten days later, I left for my six-month adventure to Liberia, Costa Rica, where I will stay until early 2014. I'm living with a family and teaching English, and enjoying the cultural immersion that this offers. My adventure continues! Below are a few photographs taken in Australia and Central America.

TASIS Photography Exhibition - Frank Long
Annual trip to the Vitra Design Museum
On Saturday, October 12, the TASIS Cultural Events program sponsored a trip to Weil-am-Rhein, Germany to visit the Vitra Design Museum. TASIS Fine Arts faculty members Martyn Dukes, Frank Long, and Mark Aeschliman led a group of 18 students through "Lightopia", an exciting exhibition about the history of illumination in architecture. This was followed by an extensive guided tour of the "Citizen Office" (Sevil Peach), Vitra's newest factory building (SANAA architects), the Fire Station (Hadid) and independent exploration of the showrooms at Vitrahaus (Herzog & de Meuron). In the afternoon they visited the Mondrian, Newman, and Flavin exhibition at the Kunstmuseum in Basel before returning to school through the Gotthard tunnel. TASIS students have the opportunity to be part of other cultural events trips and events throughout the year.
